We’re sharing here how to renew GSIS eCard plus atm or visa card used to receive monthly pension. Retirees like old age pensioners and survivorship pensioners in GSIS are using eCard plus to receive monthly pension and retirement benefits. This card is a visa card which can also be used for ATM regular savings account and online transactions. Literally, it’s a debit card.
Most eCard plus are under UnionBank although active members of the GSIS are now using UMID (Unified Multipurpose ID) which serves as a single ID for GSIS, Pagibig, and Philhealth. SSS members also use UMID card.
We’re sharing here how to renew GSIS ecard plus used by pensioners. My grandma is an old age pensioner and a survivorship pensioner as well. She receives 2 types of retirement pension – one from her and one from her deceased husband.
Recently, her GSIS ecard has expired. I contacted GSIS pension department via email and asked where can we renew her ecard – from the GSIS office or from Union Bank. It’s been a week and never had a word from them. I guess they’re too busy.
I didn’t wait for few more days because I didn’t want my grandma’s pension to stop just because her ecard was expiring so I went to Union Bank and asked the bank employee if we could renew it there. Luckily, we can. The banker gave us a form to fill up so my gran could renew her card.
Requirements to renew GSIS ecard in Union Bank
- Card Replacement Form
- Old eCard Plus
- Photocopy of 2 valid IDs
- Replacement fee of P300
The banker told us we have another option – we can also not renew the ecard even if the date expired if we’re only using the card for her GSIS pension and not using other VISA transactions such as using the card in paying some stuff.
Monthly pensions will still be credited to the ecard holder’s account even though it’s expired. Since my gran only used her ecard for her retirement pensions, we decided not to replace it anymore. We saved P300 for that.
If you’re ecard is expired and you want to use it for other transactions like when you purchase things, you must renew it and activate it again. Otherwise, just keep it and still receive pensions continuously. This is applicable right now. Some banking rules or GSIS announcement may happen so just always be updated. Thank you for reading!
Renew GSIS ecard Plus Abroad
You may need SPA (Special Power of Attorney) from the cardholder and account holder of the card if you will renew it in the Philippines. If the cardholder is outside the country, he/she can still use the ecard for his/her pensions but if they are he/she is using it for Visa transactions, he/she needs to renew it and activate it. Some Philippine embassies have services for that.
